How to Eliminate Overwhelm and Stress

Are you getting buried under your massive to-do list and feeling overwhelmed and stressed out?

Do you feel like your life is running you vs. YOU running your life?

busy mom 1

Life of a busy parent is filled with daily chaos and we all get overwhelmed time to time.

We live in a fast paced world and we are always on the go.  We are the driver, the cook, the teacher/mentor, the housekeeper, master of running errands not to mention amazing at multi-tasking.

Let’s face it we are in constant state of overwhelm and stress!

We are working harder and longer than ever, taking less time for ourselves in the process.  No wonder we are overwhelmed and stressed out.

Here are some tips that will help you kick Overwhelm and Stress in the booo-tey!

#1.  Do a data dump!

Most stress is initiated in our minds.  Inner chaos creates outer chaos.

Do a data dump to get them out of your head and create more mental white space.

Take 10 minutes and write down every single thing on your mind on paper.

All the projects, tasks, errands …. ALL the things you need to get done.

The key here is to get them out of your head and down on paper.

#2.  Prioritize to Eliminate Overwhelm and Stress!

Overwhelm happens when you have unrealistic expectations and take on too much.

Listen!  We all get 24 hours in a day – no one is immune to time.  It’s up to you to decide how you want to spend that time.

Take a look at the list you have created and start by categorizing your tasks and give them a deadline.  Is it due today? This week? This month? This year?  You get the idea….

Ask yourself: “What is the MOST important task on my list that MUST be completed today?  and “How do I want to feel?”

Do you want to feel productive?… accomplished?….relaxed?

Let that lead you to decide if this is just another “busy task” or something that will actually help you get the results you want and aid in eliminating stress.

There is nothing worst then spending all day on “busy tasks” only to take a peek at your to-do list and notice all the critical tasks are staring right back at you.

Nothing is worth stressing over!

Stress makes you less effective and is a poison to your productivity.  When you are not productive you run out of time and stress and overwhelm sets in.

#3. Ditch – or – Delegate?

Take your list and look for anything that is dragging you down.  Things that are making you feel blah!  Things that SUCK!

Now, take your pen and cross them out! Yep!  You read it right….cross them out!

Ask yourself:  Is this a priority?  If so, who can you delegate it to?

For example:  Let’s say you hate grocery shopping.  (I know hate is such a strong word…but hey! some people really do hate grocery shopping)

No problem!  Order online and have it get delivered instead.  Most grocery stores will do free delivery to your home on the day and time you choose at no extra cost if you purchase a certain amount or buy something off their promo list.

Google Shopping Express offers same day delivery from all kinds of stores like Whole Foods, Target, Walgreens, Toys R Us, Babies R Us, REI, Costco, Nob Hill and they are adding more and more stores to their list.

Get this!  You get FREE delivery for the first 6 months.  Cool or cool?

Obviously this is just one example.  The idea here is to get creative and start leveraging people and services around you to delegate more and only focus on tasks that are critical.

#4.  Stay Present!

Present moment is where all your power and control lays.

Next time you are overwhelmed and stressed notice “What is overwhelming you?  What is stressing you out?”

Is it over something that may or may not happen?  (Which means you are thinking of the future and not being in the present moment)

Is it over something you know you were supposed to do but didn’t? – Making that call, sending that email, finishing that project that’s overdue..etc.

Take ACTION!  Be in the moment and only focus on task at hand.

One day at a time…..one step at a time.  Be in the moment!

Remember this!

Past_Future_Present

Follow these simple steps and start taking control over your mind and your time.  It’s time to kick overwhelm and stress to the curb!

Now, I would love to hear from you.  How do you manage your overwhelm and stress?  Paint a picture for us below in the comments.

How To Make Play-Doh

Play-Doh-Thumbnail

How To Make Play-Doh:

My kids go through play-doh like crazy, so we started making our own play-doh at home.

I love spending time in the kitchen with my kids, and this allows us to get creative in the kitchen in other ways than baking cupcakes.

My kids have a blast making play-doh in vibrant colors of the rainbow.

This is not only a great way to save money, it also allows you to use that flour (or) food coloring that is about to expire.  😉  Win…Win!

Try it out and let me know how it turns out by sharing your picture and tag it #Play-DohFUN in social media so I can check them out.

Play-Doh Recipe:

Directions:

Using a small pan on Low heat add in the following ingredients and mix continuously for 2-3 minutes.  I like using whisk to mix but you can also use a wooden spoon.

Ingredients:

1 cup of water

1 cup of Flour

½ teaspoon of table salt

2 teaspoon of cream of tartar

2 tablespoon of Vegetable oil

Mix until the flour starts to cook and thicken.  (Mixture will be fairly wet.  Don’t worry!  We will thicken it up by adding flour after mixing in the color)

Coloring:

Divide your play-doh mixture in to paper cups for each color you’d like to create.  I roughly use 2 tablespoon of mixture in each cup.

This is where the Starbucks coffee stirring sticks come in handy!  😉

Using stirring stick (or) butter knife mix in the desired food coloring in each cup.  Be sure to use clean stirring stick / butter knife for each cup to keep color clean.  I like using Gel Neon Food Coloring from Michael’s.  Their colors are so A-mazing and vibrant!

Once you have the color mixed thoroughly, start adding flour until dough becomes thick and play-doh consistency.

Have a sparkle lover in the house?  No problem!  Add any color glitter directly in to the play-doh.  You can find them in all colors at the Dollar Store.

HOT Tip:

Don’t throw away your old Play-doh containers.  You can use it to store your homemade play-doh in it.  Or simply use old fashioned zip lock bags.  🙂

This is such a simple yet fun DIY project.

Easy, Beautiful & Sexy Valentine’s Day Makeup

Thumbnail - V-Day Makeup 2

Hey Beautiful!

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged, so Happy New Year is in order!!!

Can you believe we are already in February?!?!? Crazy how fast time flies when you are a busy Mama! – I know you can relate! 😉

Last few months have been tough on me mentally and physically. I’ve been focusing on recovering from my ankle surgery and got to word that I am banned (YEP! Banned) from wearing heels for the next 30 days 🙁

(If you follow me on social media you know how much I LOVE my heels and this is torture for me)

This experience has been a reminder that life is about overcoming obstacles.

While I am sad to park my heels for a while, I know it’s what I need to do in order to get my range of motion back so I can step back on the ballroom dance floor once again.

Hard work is ahead and I am ready to do the work!

One of my new year’s resolution for 2016 is to live outside of my comfort zone. This is not an easy thing to do for any of us.

I have let fear of judgment, procrastination and perfectionism get in the way for many years.

This year, I made a commitment to myself that I would step out of my comfort zone and TAKE ACTION – despite of fear!

So here it goes…

I LOVE girlie things like fashion, beauty and makeup. I’ve been asked to share my makeup routine by my Mommy friends for years now…but I’ve been too afraid…the thought of putting myself out there on a video with no makeup freaked me out.

It made me feel uncomfortable and vulnerable. Lack of experience with making You Tube videos didn’t help either.

After becoming a Mom I fell into the trap of “I don’t have enough time”…”I don’t have enough energy”…”I don’t have enough money”…etc.

I stopped doing things that brought me Joy.

The truth is we are a better version of ourselves when we feel good about ourselves and when we make time to do what we love.

For me, playing with makeup is one of them 🙂

After many years of procrastination, I finally started my YouTube Channel!!! Who-hooooo!

How to Create a Support System

MMS-SuperMom

How to Create a Support System

Every now and then I am reminded how important it is to have a support system in place when raising young kids.

Sometimes this support system is in the form of family like grandparents, brothers or sisters.  Sometimes it’s in the form of a nanny or a daycare…but what do we do when we don’t have access to family maybe because grandparents have passed away.  Perhaps brothers or sisters live far away or your child is not enrolled in daycare.

Who do we rely on other than our spouses when an emergency strikes?

This week I am inspired to blog about how to create a support system when there is none.

Last week I had my third surgery on my ankle to get some serious hardware removed, along with cleaning bone spur and scar tissues.  As a result, mama is on crutches for the next 2 weeks.

That means zero weight on foot, ankle elevated above heart, no walking, no driving – just resting.

Ankle Surgery

I am quickly reminded of all the things that still needs to be done, because the world doesn’t stop just because I am on crutches.

6:00 am breakfast still needs to be served, lunches still needs to be packed, Alex still needs to be dropped off and picked up from school, homework still needs to be done, Karate and Soccer practices are still in session, Amanda still needs to be taken care of full-time at home, dinners still need to be cooked, laundry still needs to be done – you get the point.

What sucks about this situation?

When you don’t have a support system in place to pitch in with the everyday chaos – everything falls on to your spouse’s shoulders.

Perhaps normally it wouldn’t be a big deal…but what if your spouse’s job doesn’t offer flexibility to be home with your little one full time, or take off at 2 pm to get your son from school or requires late dinner meetings and it happens to fall on the week you need help the most help.

Then what??? Who do you turn to?

Sometimes when we don’t have the luxury of family around, we are required to create a support system through using paid services that’s around us.

Today I am inspired to share with you some of the services you can tap into if you are in a bind and need some help.

1)  Grocery Shopping

Order online!!!  I cannot begin to tell you how may times this service has helped me. Now a days most grocery stores offer online delivery services you can take advantage of.  So simple!

Place your order online, pick your delivery date and time and you are DONE!

2)  Lunch services

Check to see if your school offers hot lunch services.  This is such a blessing to have.  Most services like Choice Lunch you can order online the day before.

Select your lunch of choice, it comes with a drink, main meal, fruit, veggies and a small snack.  What a sanity saver in the mornings to know your child’s lunch is covered and he/she will have a healthy meal offered without you or your spouse running around crazy in the morning on the weeks you need help.

So now, the focus can be on preparing breakfast and enjoying it with your family.

This service also comes in so handy when you are traveling for business and mornings are crazier than usual for the spouse holding down the fort.

3)  Daycare Services

Look for hourly drop off services near you.  There are places like Kids Park throughout U.S. that are fully licensed that allows you to drop your kids off without scheduling ahead of time.

They have qualified teachers on board who hold teaching sessions, offer reading time, free play time, homework room, movie room and plenty of other activities to keep the kids happy and involved.  They offer snacks, lunch or dinner.  Most of them stay open as late as 9 pm.  This service also comes in handy if you want to go on a date night with your spouse 😉

Great alternative for daycare services if your child is not actively enrolled in school or daycare.

4)  Dinner

There is always the option to eat frozen dinner – but let’s face it, I doubt a toddler or a four year old will be excited about frozen store bought dinner plate.

Consider services like Door Dash which allows you to order from your favorite restaurant and they deliver it straight to your home.  Dinner is served!

Sometimes we need to look at support differently.  Get creative and take advantage of the paid services that are available to us.

Sure it’s not the same as having family or a neighbor you trust to take care of business…but sometimes those options are not available to us.

So go ahead, get creative and create your own support system today!

See what services are available near you that you can take advantage of.

In fact, try them out now and test them out ahead of time.  So when you are in a bind – you’ve already had previous experience with them and know exactly what you are in for.

Hope this helped!

Now I’d love to hear from you.  How have you created a support system when you didn’t have one?  What services do you leverage when you are in a bind?

Simple Dinner Recipe

Simple Chicken Dinner - Kid Approved

Simple Dinner Recipe your Family will Love!

It’s so hard to cook healthy meals when we are depleted in energy and exhausted from running around managing all of our responsibilities.

Cooking healthy meals doesn’t have to be hard or time consuming.

I want to share with you one of my go-to simple recipes that is packed with protein and veggies…but most importantly – kids approved!

It is so simple!  You literally toss it in a pan and throw it in the oven.

Below is the recipe. Give it a try and let me know what you think in the comments below.

I hope you like this recipe as much as my family does. 😉

Ingredients:

  • 3 ½ lbs. Chicken with skin
  • 4 gold potatoes (for more fiber and healthier choice use sweet potatoes)
  • 4 tomatoes
  • ¼ cup of fresh oregano
  • 1 onion
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Carrots (if you like your carrots crunchy like we do – leave them un cut)
  • Sliced lemons and ½ of lemon juice (optional)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

Use a large pan you can place in the oven directly.

Cut all the veggies (potatoes, tomatoes, onion) into small size. Keep the sizes the same so they cook evenly.

Toss them into the pan.

Season with Salt and Pepper (1/2 teaspoon salt) and desired amount of pepper.

Coat veggies with generous amount of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) and toss it together.

Place the chicken on top of the veggies skin side up!

(Optional) Sliced lemons on top of the chicken for garnish and squeeze 1/2 of lemon juice.

Toss it in the oven 450 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour (depending on your oven and the size of your chicken)

Serve with a salad on the side.

That is it! … So simple! … So Delicious!

How to Overcome Fear

How to Overcome Fear

I was up in LA on a 5 day business trip recently and had an opportunity to hang out with some of the most influential leaders in the world like Designer from Gucci and Prada Coxy Chiara Rodoni, Entrepreneur and Best Selling Author Robert Kiyosaki, Business Mogul Bill Walsh and so much more.

They each shared a wisdom and insight that is invaluable not just for entrepreneurs but frankly relevant to us “Moms” too!  It has inspired me to share with you.

The topic of “Fear” came up quite a bit.

Fear of failing…

Fear of not being good enough…

Fear of not succeeding…

Fear of being criticized….

I found this to be so relevant for us Moms as at times we struggle with

Fear of not being a good Mom….

Fear of not having enough time…

Fear of losing our identity….

Fear of self-doubt and self-confidence…

This conversation took me back to early days when I decided to leave my corporate career of 18 years to do what I do now.  Serving Moms.

Fear of self-doubt and judgement were at its highest…you know that whole conversation in your head about “what if I don’t succeed??”

Often times, I wonder what my life would look like today if I allowed my fear or self-doubt hold me back from going after my dreams.

What I do know for sure is that when it comes to fear the only way to deal with fear is to “Just Do it!”

Easiest way to control fear is to jump right in.  Don’t let your mind chatter give you 20 reasons why not to do something.  Instead ask yourself “why not me?  Why not now?

You will never know the answer to your doubt and fear if you don’t push through it and get to the other side.

If you have a fear of failing…Fail Fast! …and move on.

The truth is, we learn best from our mistakes.  We need to celebrate our failure and recognize each time we fail we are that much closer to success.

So dive right in and don’t worry about it being perfect.  Get through it, learn from it and move on.

Whatever is holding you back “Just Dive In” and watch fear disappear.

I hope this inspires you in some way.

Now I’d love to hear from you.  How is fear showing up in your life?  How is it holding you back?  What is your go to method to kick Fears Boo-tey?

Remember, thousands of Mom’s come here each week looking for that golden nugget, inspiration and encouragement to make their Motherhood journey a bit smoother.  Your insight could be exactly what they need to hear right now that will make a difference.
